Campaign priorities

Practical priorities for local council.

These priorities reflect a simple approach: listen carefully, explain decisions clearly, and focus on the practical issues that affect daily life across Mount Barker District Council’s South Ward and the wider district.

Growth & infrastructure

Growth is happening whether we like it or not. The real question is whether we manage it properly. Infrastructure, roads, recreation, public spaces and essential services must keep pace with population growth.

Rates & value for money

Council rates are a significant household expense. Residents should be able to clearly see and understand the value they receive, and have confidence that decisions are practical, transparent and financially responsible.

Township character

Every town in our district has its own identity and story. Growth should strengthen our communities - not make them feel interchangeable or generic.

Environment & open space

Trees, creeks, wildlife corridors, dark skies and rural outlooks are part of what makes this district special. Protecting them is not anti-growth - it is part of growing well.

Consultation & trust

People may not agree with every council decision, but they deserve honest consultation, clear communication and thoughtful, independent decision-making. Even when opinions differ, residents should feel informed, listened to and respected.

Sport, music, art & community life

These are the things that help turn towns into places people belong. They deserve strong support across the district - from local clubs and recreation spaces to community events, creativity and grassroots participation.

Thoughtful growth. Strong communities. Practical leadership.

The goal is not to stop change. It is to manage change with enough care, transparency and local understanding that our towns remain places people know, value and belong to.
